A Letter From Me To You.

Dear No One,

It’s absurd that I do not know you yet, I hope this letter meets you well. I have met a few people that disguised as you. I let them into my home. Although, each time, I was almost believing it was you. I made them tea during the cold and held them close at nights. They laid in my bed and hugged me to sleep. They tickled me and made me believe. But all the time, they left once it was morning. Some did not last the night. It always hurt.

The Beauty of Quiet.

We all live noisy lives, although some of us sometimes crawl into seclusion in order to enjoy the beauty of a quiet time. For most, growing up was noisy. As a Nigerian, I’d argue we all had it noisy. The set up of our neighbourhoods and the way we live makes it all easier for noise to thrive. It is almost impossible to enjoy silence for long. The call to prayers, the night vigils, the power generating machines, the loud groovy neighbours, the loud phone ringtones and calls, the gisty siblings, the preacher men and Jehovah’s Witnesses, the nagging parents, and sometimes the night crying witches. You could never have had it quiet. We were born to love noise. In fact, if you, as a child loved it quiet all the time, you might be needing some deliverance. Continue reading
